Terms and Conditions

CheekyPlates.com is a trading name of Quick and Big Ltd. (Comp no: 12007289 / VAT no 338929847), the sale of all our owned plates include VAT and a VAT receipt will be issued. Those plates offered on behalf of non VAT registered clients, will not be subject to VAT, a receipt will of course still be issued.

Number plates are offered for sale, on the basis that the customer understands and accepts the below. By making a purchase it is understood that you as the customer accept the below.

To use a cherished registration plate on your vehicle you must have the entitlement to use the number. To do this you must have the new cherished number legally transferred to your vehicle to replace its old number. Displaying a number plate on the road, that you are not entitled to use on that vehicle is not legal. You need to complete the DVLA transfer process for your new registration number to be shown on the vehicles V5C registration certificate. It’s illegal to display a registration number that is not on that vehicle’s V5C.

There are also strict regulations about the way letters and numbers are displayed on number plates. Number plates must comply with a set of regulations that specify colour; reflectivity, size, logo’s, borders, character, font and spacing. Our plate in our advert photograph may not be for road use, ie it may be a picture of a show plate. However, unlike most other plate retailers, we supply a brand new, legally compliant set of standard plates with each purchase.

Not complying with the above regulations can lead to an MOT failure, plus other sanctions including a fine and / or the DVLA permanently removing the use of your cherished registration number.

It is also unlawful to use a private plate to try to make a vehicle look younger than it actually is. Your chosen vehicle must be compatible with your private plate. You cannot display a private plate with a year suffix / prefix newer than your chosen vehicle’s date of original registration. For example, it would be illegal to display a current style ‘58’ number plate on a vehicle registered 5 years earlier in 2003. You can however, display a registration number that predates the vehicles original registration, eg. the above 2003 vehicle, can legally display a ‘51’ registration. Any queries re the suitability of your vehicle for any of our private plates please check via the DVLA website, or send us an enquiry using the contact us link above.

By their very nature some of our private plates are “Cheeky”, we should point out that whilst rare the DVLA can at their sole descension withdraw plates that could cause offence (it appears they do have a sense of humour too though). They also have the power to withdraw any plates (cheeky or not) where spacing violations etc occur. With any number plate, you as the customer, you must understand and accept this risk.

Just as you would expect us to honour the price we agree with you, you are required to do likewise. The final price at auction end / that we agree with you is the purchase price, and customers are required to pay the final price at auction end / the price agreed and not seek to re-negotiate a price already bid / agreed.

Our customers happily buy from us online, we don’t operate an organised distance selling scheme. No refunds will be given. You will not be provided with document reference, are highly confidential and could be used to fraudulently obtain the plate. We will undertake the DVLA transfer process for you, the DVLA fee (currently £80) will be paid for by us. You are therefore reminded you will not be entitled to cancel your order under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

Winning bidders / purchasers are required, within 24 hours of auction ending / of us sending to you written confirmation of agreed price, to pay a £250 or 10% of the agreed purchase price (which ever is the greater) deposit via bank transfer. If the deposit is not paid within this 24 hour period, we reserve the right to re-advertise and / or sell the plate elsewhere without further notice at our discretion. Where a plate is sourced and bought in for a customer, a 50% deposit is required, prior to us buying in the potential agreed cherished plate.

The balance of the agreed price is to be paid prior to delivery (which must take place within 7 calendar days of auction ending or of us sending to you written confirmation of agreed price / or confirmation it is ready for delivery, unless we have agreed a different time period). The balance is to be paid by bank transfer prior to delivery, cleared funds will be required prior to despatch. A word of cautionary experience: bank transfers can sometimes take a few hours to come through.

If the balance is not paid within 7 calendar days/the time period we have agreed (as above), we reserve the right to re-advertise and/or sell the plate elsewhere without further notice at our discretion and the £250 / 10% of purchase price deposit will be forfeit (and thus not returnable to you) in recognition of the additional expenses incurred by us in you failing to buy the plate as agreed.

Our plates are advertised via a number of outlets, as such they can be removed from sale at any time prior to a deposit being paid to secure. By bidding in an auction and / or making an offer you are confirming you understand and agree to these terms and conditions. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
